If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional metal braces for straightening your smile, consider Invisalign. With Invisalign, you get the same results as braces without the hassle of wearing brackets and wires for two to three years. At Nashua Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry, PLLC, we offer Invisalign aligners for teeth straightening to our patients in Nashua, New Hampshire, and nearby communities.
Here are some key facts you should know about Invisalign orthodontic treatment.
Although Invisalign has been around for years, there’s still much to learn about this orthodontic treatment. The following facts compiled by Dr. Amanda Smith and Dr. Nicole Byer from Nashua Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry, PLLC, provide greater insight into the workings and benefits of Invisalign.
Besides being an effective orthodontic treatment, Invisalign has little in common with traditional metal braces for straightening teeth. Whereas traditional braces require metal brackets and wires to be attached to your teeth to shift them into alignment, Invisalign uses custom-fitted, clear plastic aligner trays to accomplish the same purpose. When worn, these aligners put mild pressure on your teeth to slowly move them into a straighter position.
Whereas traditional braces are highly conspicuous in appearance, Invisalign aligners are practically invisible. Also, metal braces are permanently attached to your teeth for the duration of your treatment, but Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and brushing your teeth. Clearly, Invisalign treatment is unique.
Invisalign can address a wide range of orthodontic issues, including:
Invisalign patients must wear their aligners for at least 20-22 hours daily for optimal results. The aligners can be removed for eating and oral hygiene but must be replaced immediately afterward to continue the straightening process. If you lose your aligners or neglect to replace them, it could prolong your treatment. The success of Invisalign hinges on your commitment to follow through with the instructions outlined in your treatment.
Some orthodontic problems aren’t suitable for Invisalign treatment, such as severely crooked teeth or complex bite issues. After evaluating your smile and assessing the problems that need to be fixed, we can determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign or would be better off using traditional braces to straighten your teeth.
After completing Invisalign treatment, you’ll be given a retainer to wear at night to keep your smile in alignment. Failure to do so could result in your teeth reverting to their original crooked position.
