Invisalign
We all have an idea of what braces can do for the smile. We also have a certain perception of what orthodontic treatment will look and feel like during the straightening process. Due to the appearance of metal brackets and wires, the need to give up certain foods, as well as other issues, many people have given up on the desire to have a healthier, more attractive smile through orthodontics.
Invisalign® May Be Your Ideal Alternative to Braces
Some people refer to Invisalign® as clear braces. In fact, this system is not braces at all. There is not a single bracket or wire and no sign of metal in the Invisalign® treatment process. Instead, “braces” consist of nearly invisible plastic aligners that look something like a mouth guard, only far thinner and more discreet. We are pleased to offer our Nashua patients the opportunity to straighten teeth with this remarkable system. In some cases, the entire smile makeover may consist of teeth straightening with convenient, comfortable aligners. Using this system, we can close gaps, reposition turned teeth, and correct mild bite problems such as over-bite and more.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an innovative way to correct mild misalignment and malocclusion. The idea behind this system is the same as braces: to move teeth with gentle, consistent force. Beyond the initial purpose, however, Invisalign® is different from braces in just about every aspect. One of the primary benefits to the use of trays rather than brackets and wires is the minimal disruption to daily life. As you go through your treatment process, you retain the ability to keep your teeth healthy and clean through daily brushing and flossing without obstacles getting in the way. Because aligners are removable, you also do not have to alter your eating habits.
The primary disadvantage to Invisalign® goes hand in hand with its greatest benefit. Removable aligners can be lost or can create the temptation to leave trays out more often than you should. In order to complete treatment successfully, aligners should be worn 22 hours each day and switched every two weeks as directed in the treatment plan. With compliance, Invisalign® can straighten your smile in about a year.
The Invisalign® Process
Everything about Invisalign® has been designed for ease and efficiency. Rather than relying on standard X-rays and impressions alone, the Invisalign® process involves detailed imaging of the teeth and the mouth. Images obtained in our office are sent to a state-of-the-art laboratory dedicated to the creation of aligners. In this lab, advanced computer software creates a map of teeth as they are and expands that map into a step-by-step animation, which shows the progression of movement. Before you wear your first aligner, you will see your transformation on our computer screen.
Hi, this is Dr. Amanda Smith from Nashua Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry. I also have Dr. Judi Whitcomb today.
We are going to discuss Invisalign® today. We are impression-free since we take digital scans at our office. So you don’t have all that goop in your mouth.
We joined the Invisalign® team back in 2000 when it first started. We have been a premier provider with that organization and have successfully treated many cases from start to finish.
What is Invisalign®?
They are clear trays that go over the teeth. There is no metal hardware. The trays come in and out so you can brush and floss with ease.
They’re more aesthetically looking and are better cleansable for oral hygiene. I have been an Invisalign® patient myself and experienced the whole process.
They are very comfortable. If you want to see what Invisalign® looks like in someone’s mouth, I will be happy to show and share my experience.
How long does Invisalign® take to straighten teeth?
The length of the treatment with each case is individual to what is being achieved. We would need to do a full assessment to determine how long the case treatment will be.
The trays are worn 22 hours a day. You primarily take them out to eat. We don’t recommend drinking with them. If you have anything acidic, sugary, or dark-colored, it can stain the trays.
With Invisalign®, you have 100% control and compliance. If you have a big event, you have that freedom to take them out for that short duration and put them back in to continue with the treatment.

Treatment with Invisalign® involves wearing prescribed aligners every day, removing only for meals and for oral care. Every two weeks, a new set of aligners will be inserted. Every six weeks, you will visit our office, where we can assess progress and discuss any challenges you may be having. In six to eighteen months, treatment is complete and a retainer is made.
