There is no other smile quite like yours, so makeovers at the dentist’s office are uniquely personal. While needs vary from patient to patient, tooth replacement at Nashua Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry often plays an important role in a complete smile makeover.
Planning
Dr. Smith’s comprehensive cosmetic and restorative services may be combined to create your dream smile. To identify your goals and needs, all makeovers begin with a consultation and examination. The doctors determine the number of teeth that need to be replaced. If decay is present, root canal therapy may save the tooth or extraction may be necessary.
In partnership with you, the doctors will develop a treatment plan that addresses all the desired smile improvements. For instance, if you desire a whiter smile the doctors will recommend bleaching or other approaches before moving forward with the actual design of your new teeth. This is important, because even the most powerful bleaching agents cannot change the shade of restorative materials.
Preparation
If you have some remaining teeth and desire a cost-effective way to fill a space from a missing tooth, the dental bridge may be recommended. The new tooth or pontic is anchored by crowns over neighboring teeth. Adjacent teeth must be reduced to make room for crowns. Preparation for an implant-supported crown or denture involves determining, the number and location of implants needed to complete your makeover; a minimal number of implants can support a maximum number of teeth.
Placement
The new tooth and crowns are made as a unit, which is then cemented over existing structure to “bridge” the gap. For implants, the crown or denture is placed after the implant fuses with bone, a process that may take weeks or months.
