The Porcelain Veneers Placement Process

The placement process for porcelain veneers usually takes two visits to our office. Both visits begin with the administration of a local anesthetic. In the first visit, the dentist gently shaves away a small portion of the natural tooth in order to accommodate the veneer. Next, he takes a mold of the teeth and mouth, which he sends to the dental laboratory that will custom-craft the veneers. Finally, he places temporary veneers, which the patient will wear until the permanent version is ready (usually about a week), at which point the patient will return to our office to have the veneers placed. In this second visit, the dentist carefully removes the temporary veneers. Next, he bonds the permanent veneers in place with dental-grade cement. Finally, he assures the veneers’ fit with the surrounding teeth and bite and buffs them to a shine. The patient then leaves our office with a brand new, beautiful smile!
